What should I be doing during my degree and when?
Your degree will fly by and it’s wise to take action earlier rather than later. Get involved in activities that will build your CV, such as positions in student societies, sports or volunteering, anything that gives evidence of teamwork, communication skills, organising, taking responsibility, leadership or using your initiative. If you have a student job which involves customer service, this will also fit the bill. See our Careers Action Plan for your First, Second and Final Years at Kent.
Get a high quality CV together and start thinking about what you might want to do afterwards. The best and quickest way to do this is via the Careers Employability Award on Moodle.
An adviser is on duty for short (15 minute) consultations in the Careers and Employability Service every weekday morning 10.30-12.30 or afternoon from 2 pm to 4 pm. You don’t need an appointment – just ask at Careers Reception to see them. The Careers and Employability Service is in the driveway to Keynes College.
Don’t sleepwalk through your degree! Get involved at an early stage and build up the reasons why employers will be fighting over employing you!
