I’ve spent my two weeks work placement at a local newspaper in Kent. It was an amazing opportunity, since journalism is a practical job – you have to go out and gain experience.
During my two weeks I have written up a press release, chased down people to get some quotes from them, I have written my own feature pieces. I went to vox pop people on the street and I took part in a forum where the elderly grilled the election candidates.
I could see how a newspaper works, how they gather stories, how they get ideas- it was completely different to lectures. In conclusion this work experience is going to be extremely useful in the future, especially when I do interviews because I know what to expect and how to prepare for them.
