Humanities for Hire 7-18 March 2016 #humsforhire2016

A two week series of careers events designed to link humanities students with a variety of opportunities to widen their employability.

Over the next two weeks students studying a Humanities subject at the University of Kent are invited to attend a number of different events all under the ‘Humanities for Hire’ series.

Hums for Hire runs from 7th to 18th March and will see a variety of sessions; from finding out about routes into teaching, to CV clinics and subjects covering topics such as how to be a freelance creative, finding out first-hand how to talk yourself into getting the job you really want and panel discussions, from alumni and others who earn a living from writing, publishing and working in the creative industries.

There is also a Humanities for Hire Employability Fair which is being held from 12-3pm on Friday 11th March in Eliot Hall.  The fair has been designed to help you consider and investigate some of the options available to you as a Humanities student.  Stands will include University support services such as the Careers and Employability Service, Kent Union and Employability Points but also will see training providers in teaching and journalism as well as representatives to talk about law conversion courses.  If you’d like feedback on your CV pop along with a paper copy or if you fancy finding out more about your postgraduate study options then help will be at hand.

What about if you’re interested in taking a Year in Industry as a Humanities student? A session is being held on Monday 7th March at 2pm in Jarman 2 but if you can’t attend that then staff will be able to give you guidance on the process at a stand at the Humanities Employability Fair on the 11th March instead – there will also be students there who have completed their year to give you the ‘dos and don’ts’ – nothing better than hearing it straight from those who’ve already had a successful year!

To book go to the Humanities for Hire pages and select the events you are interested in, click on the booking link. All you need is your Kent login and password – the first time you log in you will need to fill in some preferences but after that you can book onto other careers events throughout the year in the same way.

Email employability@kent.ac.uk if you have any questions – looking forward to seeing you there!
